Remember the sock sneaker? Just two short years ago, the ultra-cozy kicks were everywhere, second in hype only to the massive ugly-on-purpose sneakers that still dominate the space to this day. And for a good reason: the one-two combo of a cozy knit upper and hyper-sleek silhouette was a surefire way to add a degree of advanced style to any outfit. Of course, in recent seasons, the fervor for the sock sneaker has slowed down—after the Triple S, Balenciaga’s second-biggest shoe is its gnarly off-road shoe, not its sock. However, Alyx, the high-end label best known for playing outside the menswear box (and that Kanye West-approved chest rig), has just released its ultra-luxurious take on the style—and it was certainly worth the wait.

This is just the latest in red-hot footwear to come from Alyx. Recently, the brand has released everything from a dressy lace-up derby shoe with an exaggerated hiking outsole to a maximalist camo sneaker produced in collaboration with Nike. (Let’s just say Alyx designer Matthew Williams has the range.) This designer sock sneaker features a dreamy palette of whites and greys, with a few contrasting pops of darker shades. The elongated knit upper wraps snuggly up the ankle, and the futuristic silhouette sits on top of one serious treaded sole. While the cozy sleekness feels reminiscent of the sock sneaker explosion from a couple of years back, the pumped-up sole adds a spark of utilitarian newness and technical edge to the style.
