Vans and MoMA Celebrate Four Iconic Artists With Latest Collaboration

Vans has once again partnered with New York’s Museum of Modern Art for a collaboration paying tribute to four celebrated artists. After September’s release, the two partners now celebrate the work of Edvard MunchJackson Pollock, Lyubov Popova and Faith Ringgold.

The four artists’ work has been transported onto signature Vans silhouettes. This includes an Era featuring Munch’s world-famous 1895 work The Scream, while Jackson Pollock’s One: Number 31 from 1950 appears on the Authentic and Lyubov Popova’s angular style appears on the Sk8-Hi featuring a reconstruction of her Untitled work from 1917.

Faith Ringgold, the only living artist feature in the collection, collaborated with both the Vans and MoMA teams to translate her artwork onto shoes. In the pack, the Era has been reworked to feature two of her feminist poster pieces, with Woman Free Yourself taking over the left side while Freedom Woman Now (both 1971) appears on the right. Additionally, Ringgold’s work is the inspiration for a Classic Slip-On, which is heavil influenced by her Seven Passages to a Flight, and is finished with a quote in her handwriting, saying “My mother said I’d have to work twice as hard to go half as far.”

The five footwear styles, as well as an accompanying apparel collection, will release via the Vans web storeMoMA Design Store and MoMA website on November 11.

In other footwear news, Vans has also presented a new collaboration with L’Art de l’Automobile, inspired by the Volskwagen Golf GTI.
